Alternative ways to lower blood pressure

Last year my blood pressure started climbing and once again I had an opportunity to see how traditional doctors are trained.  If you have this take that!  I left my doctors office with a script for Inderal LA (one of the most common high blood pressure medications prescribed).

I said, do you have any idea what could be causing my high blood pressure or how we could find out?  I think he spent a couple minutes at most trying to get to the bottom of that.  Some of the most brilliant doctors are not trained to get to the cause. Our traditional medical system has resolved it is just easier to take a pill and forget what may have caused your problem.

With this approach, no wonder so many people end up just taking this pill and don't make any changes to try and control their blood pressure their self.  Which eventually leads them to needing a second pill because the first one didn't work as good as it should have.  Many people end up taking a 2nd and even 3rd pill to control their blood pressure.

I immediately decided to fill the prescription just in case, and then researched it on my own.  I also immediately bought an alternative medicine and began taking it.  After doing some research, I bought a supplement called "Michael's Naturopathic Programs Blood Pressure Factors" Cardiovascular Support which contains a long list of herbs, minerals, and vitamins.  I talked to a women who had high blood pressure and had great results in just a few days of taking Michaels.  She takes 3 every night and saw her blood pressure drop within a few days of taking it.  Eventually she said it went to normal.

However, if she stops taking it for a few days it goes right back up. In addition to this medication she also takes a garlic supplement and CoQ10 as I also do.  I also take pycnogenol which can help and am further researching L arginine and L carnitine and may add one of them.

Recently Dr. Mercola published an excellent article on controlling blood pressure.  For anyone already taking a prescription blood pressure medication this is a must read article  http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/10/08/discover-the-secret-to-lowering-your-blood-pressure-in-15-minutes.aspx

I will be adding on to this article once I see for myself if this medication is working or not?  I invite you on the journey with me to find the best way to bring blood pressure down without having to take another prescription drug.

Another remedy that works well for a friend of mine is crushed garlic and raw honey mixed in together.  Take one teaspoon everyday and you will see results in weeks.  This lady had very high blood pressure and was able to bring it down to normal with no prescription medications.  Even though it has been normal for some years, she still takes a teaspoon of this everyday.

Too much fructose can also cause high blood sugar.  When you are starting any medication or supplement to lower blood pressure, cut out all sugar for at least 2 weeks.  There is also a saying that it takes 6 weeks to see real results from anything you are trying to change through diet.  Remember fruit also contains fructose and must also be eliminated in order to increase the time it takes to lower blood pressure through any means.

May you do whatever it takes to get your blood pressure down and safely manage another health challenge!
Eat Well To Feel Great

Warning!!!!!  Do not take the advice in this article.  Work with your alternative healing practitioner and never abruptly stop your medications!  Seek professional advice and do your own research like I have done before deciding on this supplement.  One size never fits all!!!!!!!!!!

Blessings for vibrant health!

Have You Made These Important Changes For Your Health in 2010?

It's 2011 - Take Your Health Change Inventory - Here's What I did...

Get Rid Of Plastic Storage Containers and Go Green
I had already been working on this change for the last couple of years.  In 2010 I bought the delux set of Pyrex storage containers  and a set of the large mixing bowls with lids as well.  The more I store my food in glass containers, the less I want to store them in plastic ever again.

Minimize Microwave Use

I don't use the microwave for myself and would get rid of mine, except my husband believes the benefits outweigh the risks.  I heat things up in the regular oven or toaster oven when I need to.  I go to the trouble to take frozen foods out of the plastic containers they come in and heat them in glass dishes (I try not to eat processed food).

Buy More Organic and/or local Whenever Possible

Since I eat so many different types of vegetables; especially lots of asian, they are not always available in organic.  My other challenge is getting better about meal planning.  Since I often decide the day of what I will be eating, the closest organic selection is 30 minutes away.   Whenever I am at Whole Foods and buy organic greens, I build my meal or salad around those items first.

Last summer I grew collard greens, kale, swiss chard, tomatoes, parsley, basil, and a variety of other herbs.  I will grow at least as much as I grew last year and hopefully more.  Growing your own greens is the greatest way to maximize the nutrients you take in on a daily basis since you can eat them right after you pick them.  Remember to buy Organic Seeds which have not been a victim of being genetically modified.

In 2010 I became very serious about buying beauty care products with all natural ingredients and no parabens.  I consistently avoid the temptation to save money here.  Your skin will just soak up those chemicals immediately.  I discovered going organic has a domino effect.  You start thinking, does it make sense to spend the money on organic if you are going to dump chemicals on your head to shampoo into your scalp?

I also got better at cleaning consistently with all natural cleaning products.  This is a process for all of us to let go of cleaning agents which work really quick but are so deadly for us and the earth.  There are good natural products out there and the variety is getting better as we all do our part.

The only power we the people have over getting rid of toxic cleaners and garden pesticides is to NOT BUY THEM!  When we stop buying foods, cleaners, and etc that are toxic - the manufactures will change. Period!
I spoke to a variety of Congress people and Representatives that said this to me.  Forget trying to pass laws or even get something on the ballot; just simply stop buying products that cause cancer and fuel the Auto Immune Epidemic!

Eat 50 percent raw food everyday!

It's so important to optimize the amount of enzymes and vitamins in your food everyday.   I always have at least one raw salad, 1 fresh fruit smoothie (my favorite is still young thai coconut, pineapple, and fresh squeezed oranges), and half a blender full of green (rotate your greens) smoothieSome days I do much better and eat raw all day.  When I don't I just vow to do better the next day

Drink Better than Tap Water and Out of a Glass Bottle
In 2009 I began to change my water.  The first thing I did was to stop drinking bottled water out of plastic.
I started drinking Kangen water in the beginning of 2010 and put it in glass bottles when I leave the house.
When I am traveling I buy some of the best alkaline drinking water available; Icelandic Springs, Fiji, and a few others.  When it is available a newer water called Drink 360 which is also alkaline.  All these waters cost a little more than many of the other bottled waters.  However, I don't drink soda's or any other bottles of drinking materials containing sugar like many others do.  It took awhile to see the value and finally decide the extra money is worth it; another example of the domino effect which occurs in mysterious ways once you go organic, green, and take really good care of yourself.

Stop Cooking With Oils That Turn To Transfats

I stir fry with coconut oil made for heating.  Coconut Oil does not become a transfat when heated.
I do not like to eat the wrong fats anymore and focus on taking in the right fats.  I try to have an avocado a day, flax seed oil on my salad, and avoid fried foods.  I take at least 3 omega 3 fish oils a day and more in the winter.  If I am drinking ample amounts of water and my lips are still too dry, I take an extra fish oil or evening primrose oil cap.   I just started drinking Tulsi Tea is 2010 after I heard Dr. Mercola talking about Tulsi tea.

Make this the year you make some of these changes in your life.  Rome wasn't built in a day as they say.  You will find soon, you too will get on a roll with the domino effect.

Maximize the nutritional value in each and every salad with sprouts

Happy New Year Dear Followers and Readers!

It is my sincere wish for you in 2011 you have the knowledge and discipline to eat all the best foods for your health and avoid your food enemies such as sugar, white flower, genetically modified foods and grains.  I wish each and every one of you will eat well to Feel Great!

Simply eating at least one salad a day will already be an empowering health decision for many.  Already eating at least one salad a day?  Adding a few extra of the best ingredients such as sprouts will be another improvement for some of you in 2011.

I just made myself a salad with what I had on hand and all the ingredients were raw and mostly organic.
I made a salad  dominated by fresh grown sprouts I grow myself.  I buy sprouts from "The Sprout People" called French Garden and they even tell you how to grow them on their website.  I have had excellent luck growing their sprouts.

Today's empowering delicious salad

3 cups of French garden homegrown sprouts
1 cup of Sunflower sprouts
1/4 cup watercress (add up to 1 cup)
1 cup of julienne zucchini
"         "  shredded purple cabbage
1  "     "  julienne carrots
1 cup of julienne cucumber
2 stalks diced celery
few red radish diced up
2 cups shredded collard greens

Dressing
1 whole lemon fresh squeezed
3 tablespoons flax seed oil (can substitute EVOO)
3 garlic cloves crushed
could add pink himilayan salt to taste or fresh ground black pepper

There are many ingredients that would taste great in the above salad that I rotate with such as
cubed red swiss chard, cubed avocado, sliced red pepper, pea shoots, edame beans, pea pods, hemp seeds to add protein,  and whatever else you enjoy in your salad.
The dressing above is very basic - perfect for those who are busy or need to control their blood pressure by adding extra garlic whenever possible.  Chopped Parsley and chopped tomatoes taste great added to this dressing too.  But I am also making fresh tabouleh which will already have these ingredients in them.  I use quinoa as a substitute for bulghur wheat.

I make up this salad ahead of time to last a few days.  I add the dressing as I need it.  Store in a glass container.
